I recently bought a Binatone Homesurf 8 Android tablet as a gift and here's a quick rundown of my hands on experience with the device:
Pros:
The 8 inch model is a user friendly size and has a good build quality. It comes with a case and a charging stand and can be set to turn into a desktop clock when placed in the stand. The screen, while not comparable to top of the range tablets, is relatively clear and bright. It can be a bit clunky when using fingers, but is surprisingly responsive when using the supplied stylus. The browser and preloaded apps all work fine. With the 7 inch model coming in at under £100, it's an inexpensive way to get online with a tablet.
Cons:
The Homesurf is good for two to three hours of use when fully charged, which is ok when using it at home, but don't expect to be able to take it for entertainment on a long journey. The screen never seems to go to a standby mode, it's either on or slightly dimmed, which can't help battery life. The Wi-Fi receiver seems to be quite weak, being unable to find networks that other devices can connect to. Although the Homesurf runs Android 1.6, there's no Marketplace, so you'll have to find apps to download directly from the web, which can be a hit or miss affair. There are no inbuilt Google apps, such as Gmail, Talk or Maps. I've tried downloading and installing them, but they either don't install or won't run, so it looks like there is no way around that.
