Why Computer Stuff Doesn't Just Work And Why Social Networks For Artificial Intelligence Might Help
Wednesday, 1 April 2009
Scenario present day: Get home with shiny new laptop. Install new game software. Laptop won't play game at decent frame rate. Spend hours trawling manufacturer's website, forums, emailing mates etc, late into the night until you find that your graphics card needs a new driver or suchlike.
Scenario in 2025: Bring home shiny new laptop. Tell laptop what game you'd like to play. While you get a coffee, laptop connects to internet to find the software, installs and realises the game is not working properly. Laptop logs on to AI Twitter. Chats with other laptops. Finds laptop in USA that has had the same issue. Searches for new graphics card driver, downloads and installs.
When you get back with your coffee laptop says "Do you want to play a game?"
