Well imagine my surprise when I was listening to the excellent Mixing It on Radio 3 last Friday when they announced a track by Lupen Crook. Lupen's a young singer-songwriter from my home county of Kent who reminds me a great deal of an even more spaced out than normal Syd Barrett (though no-one else seems to think that - is it just me ?!) and he has my old mates Bob Langridge and Tom Langridge (yes they are brothers) on drums and bass. Me and Bob & Tom had a rocking little piano/vocals/bass/drums trio going about ten years ago, some of the tracks we did are available for download at Ashiki Music. Fun times. Their dad is the fantastic drummer Luce Langridge, who I've done numerous gigs, drinking sessions etc.. with and that's how I came to know them. Luce played with Bert Jansch for years and has some great stories about Bert! I bumped into Luce and Nigel Portman-Smith (great bass player, played with Jansch as well) at a gig I was playing at with George Hamilton IV (someone else I hadn't seen for years!) a few weeks ago - they were in top form!

Anyway, back to Lupen Crook. Mixing It is a very cool radio show, they have some way out stuff you just won't hear anywhere else and it sounds great listened to on Freeview through my stereo. As fate would have it, the Lupen Crook track they played had no drums and, as far as I could tell, no bass - so no Bob and Tom after all on Radio 3. Maybe next time..
