It's been a week now since my HTC Tytn II (or v1615 as Vodafone call it) died and was sent away to be repaired. I've been using an old Samsung slider phone (doesn't seem to have a model number on it) since then. So here is a list of the pluses and minuses of my smartphoneless seven days..

PLUSES:

  • The Samsung is way smaller and lighter than the v1615. It's nice to have a tiny phone that slips in your pocket.
  • The battery on the Samsung seems to go on for days and days.
  • Less twittering, checking email, surfing, etc all the time.

MINUSES

  • Less twittering, checking email, surfing, etc all the time.
  • I now have an email backlog as I have to logon to my laptop to get email, rather than dealing with it as it comes in on the v1615.
  • Got a bit lost driving in London the other day - 'Ah, just fire up the sat nav.. oh..'
  • All my music and podcasts were on my smartphone, so there's been a lot of silence while out and about. Maybe that should be a plus?
  • Things like checking a train timetable or taking a quick look at a sports news website now require booting up a computer. Funny how quickly you get used to having a mobile web connection.
  • Twittering by SMS is OK, but only just.
  • My v1615 was my only camera of any sort, so no photos.

So, looking forward to the call from Vodafone to go and collect my phone. Or should I just stick to the Samsung.. hmm.... nah.
